The Editor
In December 2020, I graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and a minor in Global Affairs. Since October 2021, I've been part-time teaching English on Italki, an international language-learning platform. During this time, I've elevated my students' proficiency from A1 to C1, engaging with learners from Japan, Korea, Vietnam, China, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Brazil, India, Italy, Estonia, Spain, Chile, Mexico, and Guatemala. Drawing from my background as a Bahamian-Haitian American, my deep respect for diverse cultures is woven into my book editing business, Manuscript Mender, where I empower clients' manuscripts with astute precision. In 2024, I served as a panelist at the ACES conference, where my topic was "Cultural Literacy in Editing."
As an openly Black bisexual woman, I celebrate queer narratives and actively immerse myself in literature and entertainment with LGBT+ storylines. Favorites such as Heartstopper, Love, Victor, The Captive Prince Series, Red, White and Royal Blue, and Crier’s War resonate with me. I have a passion for romance and stories that authentically portray diverse forms of love.
In our collaborative journey as editor and client, we'll explore ways to breathe life into emotional story beats, whether they unfold in fiction or within the pages of a memoir. Manuscript Mender doesn't just instruct; it elevates your written words, bringing them to new heights.
I stand by four main goals as your editor:

Fun facts:

Services
The services will reference the Chicago Manual of Style Guide unless the author/publisher has a different preference or house style guide.
The author and/or publisher will be presented with a style sheet at the end of the copyediting and proofreading services. If your book has been copyedited before, please provide the style sheet the copyeditor has curated.
The style sheet and the style guide are used to ensure everything in your book or series of books remains consistent, accurate, and factual.
An editorial contract will be presented once we complete our initial meeting.

Developmental Edit
Manuscript Evaluation
A 5-10 page assessment of your manuscript with an editorial letter that focuses on big-picture components of your manuscript. It details the strengths, weaknesses, and critiques its genre specific elements.
An in-depth assessment of your manuscript. The writer can expect to receive a 15–30-page editorial letter that explains in great detail the areas in your story that need improvement. It includes plot structure, character development, story pacing, and cohesiveness of the writing style. There are markings on your manuscript to show specific lines to rework and parts to revise. This is a meticulous process that includes suggested edits for the story.

Proofreading
The final check is in order to catch any formatting and grammar issues previously not caught in the copyediting stage. Your manuscript must have gone through a previous copyediting stage from me or another editor before it can be proofread.
Copyedit
A thorough line edit to catch spelling and grammar errors, incorrect punctuation, and any character, plot, or description inconsistencies. Also, fact-checking will be done to ensure that the author or publisher will not be subject to any legal claims. It’s time to make your sentences flow like water and protect your integrity.
Genre Specialization
I can read stories with mature content such as erotica, gore/violence, mental illness, and angst, but please provide any necessary trigger warnings.

Non-fiction
Self-help and memoir.
Fiction
Young adult, new adult, and adult, contemporary romance, speculative, fantasy, BIPOC and diverse literature, and LGBT+ literature.

Willa Robinson, Publisher, KP Publishing Company, Proofreading
“Working with Jazmine was a great experience. She offered thoughtful feedback and was thorough in her editing of my novel. Jazmine communicated with me throughout the entire process and openly answered any questions that I had. I would absolutely hire Jazmine to edit another novel of mine. In fact, I already plan to!”
Carrie S, Manuscript Evaluation
“Jazmine provided me with a written ongoing critique document and plot summary of my book. As a writer whose drafts are a stream of consciousness, her revisions and summary write-up were an eye-opener. It helped me organize my story with more confidence. I highly recommend Jazmine's services. Even if it is your first, second, or third revision, she'll definitely polish your work.”
Francoise Soleil, Developmental Edit, Copyedit, and Proofread
“As a new Author, I didn't know where to go to get my book edited. I asked a friend if she knew anyone and she referred me to Jazmine. During our first meeting, I was shocked to hear about all of the different edits there are for books. I didn't know what would be the best choice for my book. Jazmine was very detailed in explaining not just verbally but manually how her process goes and what each edit would entail. It was nice meeting a person that I can see myself working with for a long time.
She has a great personality, is knowledgeable, and is unbiased about what you're writing about. When you get your edit back, take a deep breath because it will be long but it's well worth the read. What she gives you is priceless. She wants to see you succeed as an author. It was a pleasure to experience her working in her purpose. My session ended with me having a stronger foundation as an author and tools I can use for all of my books to come. Thanks, Jazmine! God bless!”
Timi D, Developmental Edit
“Jazmine is very thorough and detailed in her work. I am a visual person, and Jazmine is visual in the way she presents her feedback, from the color-coded highlights to the way she shows the rhythm and flow of sentences/paragraphs. I feel like, through this process and addressing her feedback, I have grown as a writer and am better able to recognize my own problem areas.
This is my first time working with an editor on a novel. I went into the process with some reservations, but Jazmine's knowledge and professionalism made the experience far better than I'd expected and I am immensely grateful. I will definitely use her services on my next project.”
Jade W, Developmental Edit

Her thoroughness and attention to detail impressed me and the feedback sessions she provided ensured understanding of why changes were necessary and where. I recommend her services.”
La Toya H, Copyedit
